Dior's Fall Show: A Parisian Twist with a Makeup Controversy
The iconic Tuileries Garden in Paris became a mesmerizing backdrop for Dior's Fall 2026 collection, masterminded by Jonathan Anderson. But it's the makeup that has everyone talking, sparking debates about Parisian beauty and the art of imperfection.
"The Tuileries, a historic meeting point, inspired a fusion of cultures," says Peter Philips, Dior's creative image director. Anderson's collection showcased a delicate blend of ruffles, plaid, and pastels, but the makeup took a daring turn. Philips crafted a smudgy, leftover-makeup look for the eyes, using Dior's On Stage Crayon for a bold, Parisian-girl vibe.
But here's where it gets controversial: Philips intentionally skipped mascara, a bold move that challenges conventional beauty norms. "We wanted to avoid an overly glamorous look," he reveals. Instead, he focused on glowing skin and a subtle lip gloss effect, creating a unique, edgy aesthetic.
Hairstylist Guido Palau complemented the look with a '90s-inspired, undone ponytail, merging London and Paris. This fusion of styles and the deliberate messiness of the eyeliner have ignited discussions about the boundaries of beauty. Is this a refreshing take on Parisian chic, or a step too far from traditional elegance?
